LAHORE: Once again, this country is witnessing British National Security Advisor (NSA) Sir Mark Lyall busy meeting the ruling elite of this country. He should have held meetings with Pakistan’s NSA, instead of meeting the prime minister and other prominent public office holders of this country at a time when there is heightened tension in country.
This gentleman co-authored the National Reconciliation Ordinance, which has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. It granted immunity to those involved in institutionalised corruption, money laundering, criminal activities, plundering this country and transferring black money to the United Kingdom, Dubai, Canada and elsewhere, whose economies benefit from this corruption, while also granting immunity to over 8,000 criminals involved in heinous crimes affiliated with a political party with its headquarters in London.
Pakistan must decide whether it is really an independent sovereign state and not a dominion of its former colonial occupier ruled by corrupt elite whose families live in the UK with all their assets out of Pakistan. What a coincidence that every middleman involved in controversial nontransparent mega projects holds foreign nationality of countries whose economies benefit from institutionalised corruption and cannot be held accountable.
Pakistan has to decide whether its elected government is there to serve its former colonial masters who have given sanctuary to a man like Altaf Hussain, who daily spits venom against Pakistan, making hate speeches, and calling for its disintegration, or a government committed to serving the people of Pakistan, invest in the development of its human resources, health and boosting the economy by increasing exports instead of piling up foreign debts. We, the people, have to finally decide whether our country will continue to be shackled as a Third World country that continues to operate in favour of First World nations.
