1,037 People Nabbed, RM170mil Seized In Corruption Crackdown In Civil Service, Glcs: Paul Low.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized over RM170mil and arrested 1,037 civil servants in its crackdown against corruption and money laundering for the last three year.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low, who is charge of the integrity and transparency of the government, said the value of bribes seized and frozen amounted to RM112,436,354.80 in 2014, RM30,782,280.29 in 2015 and RM27,554,652.31 in 2016.
"A total of 225 government officers and two officers from government-linked companies (GLCs) in were detained by MACC in 2014, while 398 government officers and seven from GLCs were detained in 2015.
"The MACC had also detained 388 government officers and 17 from GLCs as of September this year," said the 'transparency minister' in a written reply to Tan Kok Wai (DAP-Cheras) in Parliament.
Tan had wanted to know the number of arrests made against corruption offenders and the value involved in cash, property and other forms.
Meanwhile, between 2010 and July this year, disciplinary action were taken against 31,263 officers while 5,778 government officers and officers in GLCs were sacked, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
"152 officers were demoted with no promotion for four years, while 1,168 were punished with pay cuts without promotions for three years.
The salaries of 2,369 officers were also frozen for 30 months while 4,370 lost their emolument rights for 24 months.
She added that 4,295 officers were fined the maximum of seven days of emolument. "Warning letters were issued to 13 officers and 104 lost their promotion prospects for a period of 12 months." she said.
